About the Traditional German Brand Schildkröt

In 1896, the Rheinische Gummi und Celluloid Fabrik in Mannheim-Neckarau developed the Blass-Press method for obtaining hollow celluloid bodies and immediately registered the necessary patents. This was the starting point for the production of doll heads and later table tennis balls, under the Schildkröt brand, registered in 1899 and retrospectively to 1889. The tortoise shell used as the company logo is reminiscent of the dye and pattern of celluloid products. It embodies resilience, durability, and strength. In the 1980s, the product range was divided into two areas: dolls/toys and table tennis, which were later acquired by several companies. In 1984, the company’s current owners took over the sporting goods sector, building the first Western table tennis production in China in 1989 and rapidly developing the brand.

Donic-Schildkröt Table Tennis

In 2000, thanks to the collaboration between Donic and Schildkröt, the strengths of these two respected table tennis brands were combined to form Donic-Schildkröt. Donic is one of the most successful brands in the competitive table tennis sector, boasting top-level players and legends such as Jan-Ove Waldner and Jörgen Persson. Donic-Schildkröt is by far the best-known and leading table tennis brand in Central Europe today. Schildkröt is still considered the inventor of the table tennis ball.

Schildkröt Fun and Aquasports

Following the success story of table tennis, new product areas were added under the well-known Schildkröt brand. First, funsports, followed in 2007 by aquasports. This is probably the most extensive collection available, so leadership in Central Europe was quickly achieved. From neoprene balls, throwing discs, and garden games to fashionable sports and water sports items, there is something for everyone.

The focus is on the excellent cost-performance ratio and Schildkröt’s high quality standards. As is customary for Schildkröt, product development and design are carried out in Germany.
